V-tech Awards Science Scholarship

V-tech Environmental Services presented a science scholarship donation to Wayland Baptist University-Lubbock Campus on July 12, 2012. The check was presented by Ms. Michelle Curran and Ms. Lorene Cole of V-tech to Dr. Kent Brooks, Director of Development, and Dr. Chris Truitt, Professor of Chemistry. Several other WBU employees also attended the presentation.

Dr. Brooks stated that 750 students attend the Lubbock campus. Most students are non-traditional and the average age is 34. Because most students are already working and have their families to support, Dr. Brooks said that scholarships help out their students tremendously. Also, non-traditional students don’t qualify for many scholarships that high school graduates can receive. The majority of students enrolling in college classes are aspiring to enter the medical field as nurses, physician’s assistants or doctors. Dr. Brooks and Dr. Truitt kindly gave Ms. Curran and Ms. Cole a tour of their science facilities.
